Hot Ideas for Candle Safety

By Colleen Messina
1     Whoosh! You blow out the candles on your birthday cake. You make a wish. You hope that it comes true! Candles and wishes should be a part of every birthday party.

2     Candles are fun, but it is important to be careful with them, too. National Fire Prevention Week takes place during the week in which October 9 falls. The National Fire Protection Association's special wish is for everyone to use candles safely.

3     Everyone loves candles. Some candles are made from beeswax. In the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church only used beeswax candles. Candles made from tallow were smoky and nasty. They would have been a stinking mess in church! Beeswax candles were much better. They smelled good. They lasted a long time.
