The Fox and the Crow
By Brenda B. Covert

1     A fox and a crow both lived in the woods beyond the marketplace. Many people sold food at the market. It was the perfect place for a pair of thieving animals to find a free meal!

2     One afternoon, the fox lazed under a bush. With one eye open, he saw the crow snatch a piece of cheese and fly up onto the low branch of a tree. With both eyes open, the fox hurried out from under the bush. He looked up at the crow.

3     "Hello there, Brother Crow!" he called. "Your feathers are looking quite glossy and fine today!"
