1     When you think of a panther, you probably imagine a smooth, black animal quietly stalking through the trees. Florida panthers are quiet, solitary animals, but they aren't black. They have tan coats and light gray bellies. They live in the low pinelands, the palm forests, and the swamps of southern Florida. They are territorial animals.
