Kenai Fjords National Park
By Meg Leonard

1     Kenai Fjords National Park is in Alaska. This park is only about thirty years old. It preserves unique landforms in Alaska. The area was made by glaciers, storms, and earthquakes. The Harding Icefield is here. There are at least thirty-eight glaciers. Most of the park is backcountry. If you are looking for an adventure, this may be the park for you.

2     Kenai Fjords are on the Kenai Peninsula. A fjord is a sea inlet. It is a long narrow arm of water with steep sides. It can reach far inland. The water in a fjord can be very deep. Fjords are caused by glaciers. At Kenai Fjords, you can kayak. This is one way to see the fjords up close. However, if you don't know much about kayaking, then you will want to take a guide with you. The glaciers in the fjords can be dangerous. Most of a glacier is underwater. You don't want to get too close.
