Feeling Music

There are five senses. People can hear. People can see. They can taste. Touch is a sense. People can smell. Not all people have all of their senses. What happens when one or more is not there? Experts say that other senses become stronger. Stevie Wonder was born blind. Later in his life, he lost his sense of smell. He is well-known in the world. He is a musician.


Stevie Wonder was born on May 13, 1950. He was named Stevland Hardaway Judkins. Stevie was born in Michigan. He was born early. He was given oxygen. Experts say that he was given too much oxygen. It caused him to lose his sight. Stevie grew up in a home with five children. It was important to his mother that Stevie was not treated differently. She told all of the children to treat him the same as any other child.


Stevie liked music from an early age. He sang. He played instruments. He learned to play the piano. He played the congas. Congas are a type of drum. He played the harmonica. Stevie often performed in church. Stevie went to school. He went to a school for the blind. It was there that he learned to play classical piano.
