Do you know who Robert Munsch is? He's a best-selling author of children's books. Even if you don't recognize his name, you probably have read his picture books. Do the titles Love You Forever, Andrew's Loose Tooth, Mud Puddle, or Wait and See sound familiar to you?


Robert Munsch was born on June 11, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He had eight brothers and sisters. That certainly made his family's big old farmhouse noisy and interesting. The kids loved the yard that was filled with apple trees, pear trees, and peach trees.


Robert never did well academically in school. He did like science. He wrote poetry from the time he was very young. He liked to be funny and silly. Those are the kinds of poems he writes, too!


When Robert went to high school, he continued to struggle. However, he loved to read books. He made a decision to become a Catholic priest. He studied to become a priest for seven years. During this time he got an undergraduate degree in history and a master's degree in anthropology. He also spent time working in an orphanage. There, he decided he would rather work with children than become a priest.
