Who Knew?

Who knew that a plastic disc could be fun? Who knew that it could stay in the air? Who knew that a game of golf could be played with it? Who knew that dogs would like it? Who knew? History tells us that many people did.


Flying discs have been around for a long time. A disc is a flat object. It is thin. It is circular. A disc is like a plate. Long ago, discs were used as weapons. Discs have been used for sport. Today, the toy disc is known as a Frisbee.


One story says that the toy flying disc began with a baking company. The Frisbie Baking Company made pies. The pies were made and sold in tins. College students made a discovery. They found that the empty pie tins could be tossed. The tins could be caught. The tins had the name of the baking company on the bottom. The tins became known as Frisbies.
