1     "Gentlemen start your engines!" That was heard each year. It was said at the start of a race. The Indianapolis 500 has been called "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Race car drivers dream of being a part of it. The first Indianapolis 500 was held in 1911.
 
2     "Gentlemen and lady start your engines!" Sixty-six years later that was heard at the race. Janet Guthrie was the first woman to drive in the Indianapolis 500.
 
3     She was born March 7, 1938. She was born in Iowa. Her family moved to Florida. She was three years old. Then, she went to the University of Michigan. She worked as an aerospace engineer. An aerospace engineer is a designer. She designed rockets. She designed airplanes. She designed spacecraft.
