Famous for Fairy Tales

By Jody Williams
1     Who wrote this fairy tale? A prince is looking for a princess. He meets many. None are right for him. One day, a young woman knocks on his door. She says that she is a princess. She was lost in the rain. The prince had to make sure she was a princess. He asked her to sleep on top of twenty mattresses. There was a pea underneath all of them. If she was a true princess, she would have trouble sleeping. She did. The prince married her. Hans Christian Andersen wrote this story in 1835.
