Mistakes You Can't Erase
By Beth Beutler
I wish I had an eraser. In fact, I wish I could erase this entire day. Ironically, it's Rubber Eraser Day. Well, a rubber eraser can't help me now.
Here's the story. I got up and ready for school as I usually do. My alarm went off at 6:15. I hit the snooze button, and then at 6:25 rolled out of bed. I got dressed, fed the dog, ate breakfast, and got on the bus at 7:10.
I plopped down next to Ty, my buddy since second grade.
"How are you this morning?" I asked.
Ty just grumbled. (He's not a morning person.)
I looked around at the other students before Ty said, "I'm not ready for that test today."
"You mean the English test?"
"Yes." He slouched down in his seat.
"Didn't you study?"
"Not enough. I had a two soccer games this weekend and one last night. If I fail this test, I'm dead. My grade will drop, and I'll be dropped from the team. Can you help me out?"
"Sure, I can help you study."
"No, I mean really help." Ty lowered his voice. "Could you signal some answers to me? You sit far enough ahead of me, and it's supposed to be a multiple choice test. It'll be easy."
