A Pair of Donkeys

"I wish I had a donkey like you do," Brianna said to her friend Jennifer. Brianna and Jennifer were standing by a pasture fence just past the end of Jennifer's driveway. They were watching a full-grown donkey interact with her new baby donkey.

"Baby Gray is not really my donkey," Jennifer replied.

"I know that," Brianna said, "but since you live right next door, it's kind of like having a donkey of your own."

"That's true," Jennifer replied. "I sure do have fun seeing the donkeys almost every day."

"When was Baby Gray born?" Brianna asked.

"Four weeks ago," Jennifer answered.

"He is so cute!"

The girls walked farther along the fence that enclosed the pasture to get a closer look at Baby Gray and his mother, Polly. They had some animal crackers for Polly. Jennifer wasn't sure Baby Gray was ready for them. Nearly every day after school, Jennifer went down to the pasture and fed Polly.

Polly loved the animal crackers. As soon as she saw Jennifer, she would bray and walk over to the fence. She always seemed so excited to see Jennifer!
