Bunsen Burner Safety

Bunsen Burner Day

Reading Comprehension for March 31

Perkin works in a lab. He wears a long, white lab coat. Sometimes he works with a Bunsen burner. He uses it for experiments. A Bunsen burner can heat up a beaker or crucible containing a liquid. Sometimes Perkin pretends that he is a mad scientist mixing a secret potion!

The Bunsen burner looks like a candle made from a pipe. It has a sturdy base so that it won't tip over. The base is where a hose connects. The hose will allow gas into the "candle" so that a flame can be ignited at the top.

Because a flame can start a fire, Perkin has safety rules to follow in the lab. He always follows the rules.
