Healthier Baking

"What are you making, Denise?" Ruth asked as she slid onto the stool by the breakfast bar.

Ruth and Denise were sisters, and Denise loved to bake. She was often coming up with new recipes and creating tasty morsels. Ruth was content to be the taster.

"I'm making carob brownies," Denise replied as she added what looked to be chocolate chips into some batter.

"What's carob?"

"Carob is a substitute for chocolate. Some feel it is healthier than chocolate. Want to taste a piece?"

"Sure," Ruth replied, holding out her hand.

Denise put a carob chip into her sister's hand and watched her eat it. Ruth made a face.

"It tastes a little different," she said.

"In what way?"

"It's not quite as creamy as chocolate, but it tastes like it has more sugar in it."
