Helpful and Safe

Many things can change as people get older. Their appearance changes. They start getting gray hair and wrinkles. Things that were easy to do aren't as easy anymore. Everything seems to take more energy. Sometimes it even hurts!


Other things happen, too. Older people may get sick more easily. Many older people have to take different kinds of medicine to stay healthy. Sometimes the medicines can be very expensive.


A few months ago, Mia's grandmother moved into the extra bedroom in Mia's house. She is going to live with Mia and her family now. Mia is so happy that her grandmother is there. She knows her grandmother needs help doing things sometimes. Mia wants to help her as much as she can.


Grandma Nina has to take several different kinds of medicine. She says the medicine helps her body feel better and stay well. Some of the pills are for her heart. Some are for her joints. She has to take them at special times during the day.


The medicines help Grandma Nina. Without the medicines, she might get very sick, or her joints might hurt a lot. It's important that she take the medicines every day. She is very careful with them.
