Black Beauty is a book about a horse. The story is written as if the horse is telling it. The first title of the book was Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse. An autobiography is a story about a person's life. The person the story is about is telling the story. In this case, "Black Beauty" is a horse. He is telling his story.


Anna Sewell wrote the story of Black Beauty. She was born on March 30, 1820. She was born in England. England is a country in Europe. Anna went to school at home for most of her life. When she was 14 years old, she went to a school outside her home. One day as she walked home, she fell. She hurt her ankles. At the time, the doctors did not know how to help her. She never stood or walked again.
