Daily Free Learning Workbooks for Teachers to Share with Parents while Schools are Closed - Kids will actually do these!

Does anyone else feel like the world's current situation sounds like a short story written by a first-grader? First, there was a bad virus, COVID-19. Next, the world ran out of toilet paper. Finally, nobody had to go to school, and all the parents had to stay home from work. They printed homeschool worksheets and tried to help their kids learn. As unrealistic as this sounds, this is the current reality. So what do you do next? How can you help your child during these uncertain times? Here are a few resources and suggestions that may help you navigate the next few weeks at home.

Set a Realistic Schedule and Have your Kids Try To Make One

At one time or another, most adults have probably dreamed about being forced to stay home and tackle those projects that never seem to get done. While initially this may be the case and lonely drawers will finally be organized, lazy pajama days may need to be replaced by a schedule of some sort. Setting a family schedule may help save your sanity and create a sense of normalcy for your kids.

When you think through a daily schedule for your family, be sure to keep your expectations realistic. If your children are not voracious readers, don't suddenly expect them to read independently for six hours a day. Map out a day that includes time for academics with and without technology. Create an opportunity for some worksheets, online math games and search YouTube for art lessons. Incorporate daily movement outside with the help of sites like Go Noodle or YouTube. Set aside time for journaling or letter writing. You may also want to include time for life skills. These weeks at home are perfect for cooking, baking, laundry and house cleaning.

This may be challenging for the younger kids to make their own school day schedule, but they will be able to handle it. Even if they end up with a 90 minute snack time, let them work through the schedule one day to see how they did. Then maybe they can make a BETTER schedule for the next day!

Print Practice Pages

Daily practice and review of skills will be very important over the next few weeks. Take advantage of these fun and engaging daily workbooks from edHelper.com. These varied activities will give you both something to look forward to. They will enjoy having something fun and different to do each day. You will enjoy the fact that you aren't stuck wasting time scouring the internet for quality practice pages.

Keep Calm and Parent On

Remember that your children will look to you as they determine how they are supposed to respond to their time at home and the current state of the world. Approach each day with a sense of hope and hug those you love, but stay six feet away from everyone else! Use the tools at your disposal and make the most of this time you have together.

Tiger Moms

If you're a Tiger Mom, ferociously looking for more math materials for your children, look no futher than our Math Worksheets and Math Challenge Books. Allow your child to review critical skills or push them to think critically about new ones. While there are several options for online math games, videos, and tutorials, research still shows the power of paper and pencil when it comes to developing and internalizing skills and standards. Allow these resources to help you limit screen time and encourage strategic academic growth.

As a new homeschooling parent, you most likely have a new appreciation for what your child's teacher does each day, especially when you consider that he or she works with close to thirty students at a time! When school finally resumes, parents will no doubt be ready to shower their children's teachers with praise, but, until then, edHelper.com will keep you and your children engaged with the high-quality and engaging materials you need.
