Set a Realistic Schedule and Have your Kids Try To Make One
At one time or another, most adults have probably dreamed about being forced to stay home and tackle those projects that never seem to get done. While initially this may be the case and lonely drawers will finally be organized, lazy pajama days may need to be replaced by a schedule of some sort. Setting a family schedule may help save your sanity and create a sense of normalcy for your kids.
When you think through a daily schedule for your family, be sure to keep your expectations realistic. If your children are not voracious readers, don't suddenly expect them to read independently for six hours a day. Map out a day that includes time for academics with and without technology. Create an opportunity for some worksheets, online math games and search YouTube for art lessons. Incorporate daily movement outside with the help of sites like Go Noodle or YouTube. Set aside time for journaling or letter writing. You may also want to include time for life skills. These weeks at home are perfect for cooking, baking, laundry and house cleaning.
This may be challenging for the younger kids to make their own school day schedule, but they will be able to handle it. Even if they end up with a 90 minute snack time, let them work through the schedule one day to see how they did. Then maybe they can make a BETTER schedule for the next day!

Keep Calm and Parent On
Remember that your children will look to you as they determine how they are supposed to respond to their time at home and the current state of the world. Approach each day with a sense of hope and hug those you love, but stay six feet away from everyone else! Use the tools at your disposal and make the most of this time you have together.
